Cabin Disinfection at Frankfurt-Egelsbach (EDFE)
Approved disinfectants, high-touch treatment and air-path cleaning on the ramp south-east of Frankfurt.
Cabin Disinfection at Frankfurt-Egelsbach (EDFE) is an on-ramp sanitisation service for business jets, turboprops and pistons operating through Germany's busiest general-aviation airport. We treat every high-touch surface—seats, armrests, galleys, lavatories, switches, air vents—with aviation-approved disinfectants, neutralise odours and deliver a certificate of treatment. The work is coordinated with TRIWO Handling and fits inside Egelsbach's daylight operating hours, typically completing in one to two hours during turnaround or overnight stand. Charter operators, medical-flight crews and flight departments use the service after long-haul sectors, multi-leg charters or any flight where cabin hygiene is a contractual or operational requirement.

Why disinfect a cabin at Frankfurt-Egelsbach?
Egelsbach handles over eighty thousand movements a year, the majority of them training flights, owner-flown pistons and regional business aviation. Charter operators and flight departments land here to avoid Frankfurt's slots and fees, but passengers still expect the same cabin standards they would find at a Part 145 FBO. High-touch surfaces collect bacteria, viruses and allergens over successive legs, and recirculated air systems spread contaminants if the ducts and gaspers are not treated.
Cabin Disinfection removes that risk. We apply aviation-approved disinfectants to every switch, latch, armrest, galley handle and lavatory surface, then treat the air vents and gaspers to sanitise the recirculation path. Odour neutralisation is included: smoke, food, fuel vapour and biological smells are broken down, not masked. You receive a certificate of treatment for your records, which satisfies charter-contract hygiene clauses and reassures passengers that the aircraft has been professionally sanitised between flights.
What changes at Frankfurt-Egelsbach?
Egelsbach sits at 385 feet elevation with a single 1,400-metre runway, 08/26, about ten kilometres south-east of Frankfurt Airport. The field operates daily from 08:00 to 21:00 local, though that closing time is actually the end of civil evening twilight—whichever comes first. In winter, twilight arrives well before nine o'clock, so the airport effectively closes mid-evening. No movements are permitted after twilight or 21:00 without prior-permission-required approval, and night operations are PPR-only with requests due by midday (summer) or 13:00 UTC (winter). That means any detailing work on the ramp must finish before the field closes, or you arrange an extended stand with the operator in advance.
PPR is mandatory at Egelsbach for aircraft above 5.7 tonnes, for any operation requiring fire category four or higher, for full-service handling and for movements outside operating hours. Jets, turboprops and faster pistons in approach categories B and C must also complete an online briefing before every arrival and departure. TRIWO Handling—the airport operator—provides full-service handling on request and coordinates third-party crews airside. We file our own airside-pass request and liaise with TRIWO's handling desk to confirm stand location, GPU availability and timing, so the disinfection fits cleanly into your turnaround or overnight schedule without delaying the next departure.
How does the treatment work on a business jet?
We board after the last passenger deplanes and the cabin has been tidied by the crew or handler. The technician works forward from the aft lavatory, applying disinfectant to every high-touch surface: seat controls, armrests, seatback latches, tray tables, window bezels, cabin-management touchscreens, galley handles, coffee-maker panels, lavatory taps and flush buttons. All switches, door handles and cupboard latches are treated. Air vents and gaspers receive a separate aviation-approved product that sanitises the recirculation path without leaving residue on the grilles.
Odour neutralisation follows disinfection. We use an enzymatic treatment that breaks down smoke, food, biological and fuel-vapour molecules rather than covering them with fragrance. The process takes between one and two hours depending on cabin size and configuration. When the work is complete, you receive a certificate of treatment with the aircraft registration, date, products used and technician signature—documentation that satisfies charter hygiene clauses and provides an auditable record for your flight department.
What do handling agents at Egelsbach expect from a detailing crew?
TRIWO Handling coordinates all full-service ground support at Egelsbach and manages airside access for third-party specialists. They expect us to file our airside-pass request in advance, confirm stand assignment and GPU availability, and work within the airport's operating hours unless an extended-hours PPR has been approved. Because Egelsbach has no curfew-free window and closes at twilight, timing is tighter in winter: a 17:00 arrival in December leaves perhaps ninety minutes of daylight for a two-hour disinfection, so we either start under artificial light with GPU or arrange PPR for work after official closing.
The handler also expects the aircraft to be powered down and chocked before we board, and for the crew or handling agent to have completed any galley restocking or catering removal that would interfere with surface treatment. We bring our own consumables, waste bags and equipment; the handler provides apron access, stand coordination and occasionally a power cart if the aircraft's battery is flat. Communication runs through TRIWO's operations desk, which is staffed from 08:00 to 21:00 local and by arrangement outside those hours. Clear coordination prevents delays and ensures the disinfection finishes in time for the next departure or overnight close-down.
When should a charter operator schedule cabin disinfection?
Charter contracts increasingly include hygiene clauses that require sanitisation between flights, especially for medical evacuation, VIP transport and multi-leg tours. Cabin Disinfection is recommended after every charter leg, after any long-haul flight where passengers have spent six or more hours in a sealed cabin, and whenever the previous passengers were ill, smoked (even if smoking is prohibited) or travelled with animals. Flight departments also schedule disinfection before delivering an aircraft to a new lessee or after a series of short hops where deep cleaning has been deferred.
At Egelsbach, most operators book disinfection during an overnight stand or a turnaround of three hours or longer. Because the airport closes at twilight, afternoon arrivals in winter leave limited daylight for ramp work, so we often begin under GPU power once the cabin is empty and the aircraft is chocked. The certificate of treatment is emailed to the crew or flight-department manager within an hour of completion, giving you immediate documentation for the next passenger manifest or charter audit.
What about odour removal and air-system treatment?
Odour is a common complaint in charter and owner-flown aircraft: galley waste, lavatory biologicals, residual smoke, spilled drinks, wet upholstery and even fuel vapour that migrates forward from the APU or tail. Masking the smell with air freshener only works until the fragrance fades. Our odour-neutralisation treatment uses enzymes that break down the organic molecules responsible for the smell, eliminating the source rather than covering it.
Air vents and gaspers are treated separately with an aviation-approved disinfectant that sanitises the recirculation path. Bacteria and viruses collect on the grille surfaces and are blown into the cabin every time the environmental system runs. Treating the vents reduces that risk and improves perceived air quality, which passengers notice immediately. The products we use leave no residue, no stickiness and no fragrance—just clean surfaces and neutral air. The entire process is part of the standard Cabin Disinfection service; you do not pay extra for odour removal or air-path treatment.
Questions operators ask about Cabin Disinfection at Frankfurt-Egelsbach
How long does cabin disinfection take at Frankfurt-Egelsbach?
Between one and two hours, depending on cabin size and configuration. A light jet or single-pilot turboprop takes about an hour; a super-midsize or large-cabin aircraft takes closer to two hours. We work during turnaround or overnight stand, coordinating timing with TRIWO Handling to fit inside Egelsbach's daylight operating hours or an approved PPR window.
Do I need to arrange the disinfection in advance?
Yes, especially in winter when the airport closes at twilight. We recommend booking at least twenty-four hours ahead so we can file the airside-pass request, confirm stand location with TRIWO and ensure the work finishes before the field closes. Same-day requests are possible if the aircraft lands early enough to leave time for the full treatment before end of civil twilight.
What products do you use, and are they safe for cabin materials?
We use only aviation-approved disinfectants safe for leather, Alcantara, veneer, metals and plastics. Every product is tested for compatibility with OEM cabin materials and leaves no residue, discolouration or stickiness. The air-vent treatment is formulated for avionics-adjacent surfaces and does not interfere with sensors or grilles. You receive a list of products used on the certificate of treatment.
Does the service include the cockpit?
High-touch cockpit surfaces are included; avionics and screens are no-touch. We treat yokes, throttles, door handles, seat controls and any switch or latch the crew touches regularly. Avionics screens, instrument panels and anything with a caution placard are not touched. If you want a full cockpit disinfection including screens, let us know when booking and we will bring no-touch cleaning tools.
Can you disinfect the cabin if the aircraft is cold-soaked?
Yes, though we prefer the cabin to be at or above ten degrees Celsius for the disinfectant to cure properly. If the aircraft has just landed from altitude in winter and the cabin is still cold, we can run GPU to bring the temperature up or wait thirty minutes for the interior to stabilise. Disinfectants work best above ten degrees; below that, curing time increases and efficacy drops.
Do you provide a certificate of treatment?
Yes, every disinfection includes a certificate with registration, date, products and technician signature. The certificate is emailed to the crew or flight-department manager within an hour of completion. It satisfies charter-contract hygiene clauses, provides an auditable record for your SMS and reassures passengers that the cabin has been professionally sanitised.
What happens if the aircraft has to depart before the disinfection is finished?
We pause the work, secure all materials and invoice only for the time spent airside. AOG, schedule changes and passenger requests take priority. If you need to depart early, let us know and we will stop immediately, remove all equipment and invoice for the partial treatment. You can rebook the full service at the next stop or when the aircraft returns to Egelsbach.
Can disinfection be combined with a dry wash or interior detail?
Yes, and combining services saves time and coordination effort. Many operators schedule Cabin Disinfection alongside a dry wash or rinseless exterior clean, or as the first step in a full interior detail. We coordinate all work with TRIWO Handling so the aircraft is treated inside and out during a single overnight stand or extended turnaround, reducing the number of airside-pass requests and handler calls.
Does Egelsbach have water restrictions that affect your work?
Cabin Disinfection uses no water, so airport water rules do not apply. The disinfectants are applied with microfibre applicators and buffed to a clean finish; no rinsing or wet extraction is involved. That makes the service straightforward even at airports with strict environmental or water-use rules.
What is the latest time you can start disinfection at Egelsbach?
We must finish before the airport closes at 21:00 local or end of civil twilight, whichever is earlier. In summer, twilight can be as late as 21:30, but the airport still closes at 21:00. In winter, twilight arrives by 17:00 or earlier, so the field effectively closes mid-evening. If you need disinfection after twilight, the aircraft operator must file a night-flight PPR in advance, and we coordinate extended airside access with TRIWO.
